Company History:

Founded in 1986, ATS initially specialized in Environmental Qualification (EQ) testing for the nuclear power industry.  Our work soon expanded to include metrology, real-time software, and training support to the nuclear and process industries.

In 1989, Third Millennium Engineering division was created as we expanded our scope to include design and fabrication of test, calibration, and experimental equipment for both nuclear and non-nuclear customers.

In 1999, we expanded and moved into our current facility in order to move all operations under one roof.

In 2007, we expanded our laboratory capabilities to meet the requirements of new generation nuclear power plant designs.  ATS was the first laboratory to meet the LOCA and MSLB requirements for the new Westinghouse AP1000 design.

Facilities:

Headquartered in Delaware, Ohio, our offices, laboratory, and plant are located in our 27,000 ft 2 (2500 m 2) facility with both truck and rail access.  Our high-bay laboratory provides ample space for assembly and testing of large experiments, systems, and prototypes.

Quality System:

Our Quality Philosophy combines the traditional qualities of craftsmanship and integrity with the letter and intent of modern, specifications based QA systems.

Our system meets and exceeds our customers' QA requirements while controlling costs.  Our supplemental requirement process allows us to implement specific customer requirements not previously included in our system documentation.  Our multi-grade process assures that unnecessary documentation costs are prevented.

We succeed in maintaining a comprehensive QA system without sacrificing flexibility.  Flexibility is the key to our responsiveness.

Our 10CFR50 Appendix B compliant Level 1 QA System manual covering Special Grade testing services is available for download: ATS QAS-NQA1 Rev 0

Test Laboratory:

ATS' test laboratory facilities include:

  • Superheated steam to 800 °F (425 °C) at 250 psig (17 bars) or 1400 °F (760 °C) at reduced pressure
  • Two environmental (LOCA, HELB, MSLB...) test chambers: ∅59" (1500 mm) & ∅19" (480  mm) capable of reaching 650 °F (340 °C) in a few seconds
  • Aqueous solution preparation and high pressure delivery
  • Walk-in environmental aging oven capable of up to 750 °F (400 °C)
  • Combustion research furnace
  • Compression & tension testing to 60,000 lbf (267 kN)
  • Metal hardness (Rockwell) and toughness (Izod, Charpy)
  • Mechanical cycling and fatigue
  • Custom capabilities to your requirements

Metrology:

We maintain NIST traceable calibration standards in dimensions of length, force, mass, temperature, pressure, torque, flow, hardness, volume, voltage, current, frequency, and resistance.  You can be confident in our expertise forged by years of experience calibrating instruments to the strict standards of extremely demanding industries.  Our Quality Assurance system assures you of a documented chain of traceability suitable for your NQA1, ISO9000, TS, ISO/IEC 17025, or other QA system.

Fabrication:

From early projects, we identified the need for engineers and fabrication craftsmen to work closely together during the design and prototyping phases of projects involving the development of new equipment or parts.  In 1994 we began developing in-house machining and fabricating facilities to serve this need.

We now have a full service machine shop and fabrication facility operating on site.  In-house processes include precision milling, boring, turning, & grinding as well as bending, plasma cutting, and welding (both MIG & TIG).

Close alliances with specialty fabricators extend our capabilities to include large-scale fabrication, EDM (both wire & sinker) and both laser cutting and engraving.

Electronics & Instrumentation:

We have extensive experience in analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design, prototyping, and troubleshooting.  Our in-house facilities include a large inventory of components, fabrication tools, and test equipment.  Capabilities include analysis, design, breadboarding, pcb design & fabrication, packaging, assembly, and testing.

The ESPI (Electronic Set Point Indicator) portable valve calibration system is an example of our in-house electronics proficiency.  This system includes precision "smart" sensors, mixed signal circuitry, embedded controllers, and interface to a laptop computer.  ESPI units have been in continuous field service for over 20 years requiring only periodic calibrations and routine maintenance.
